Why I built RevRec Engine

I'm Chris. I'm a CPA. I'm nine-times Salesforce-certified.

Neither of those credentials is the interesting part of this story.

The interesting part is what happened over and over for years in the SaaS finance teams I worked inside.

A founder would ship something great. They'd raise a seed, then a Series A. Their revenue would scale from $500K to $3M to $10M. And somewhere along the way — usually around their first real audit — they'd walk into a room and hear an auditor say the words “ASC 606” for the first time.

And then I'd watch them scramble.

Spreadsheets that had worked at $500K ARR would break at $3M. Mid-term upgrades, multi-element bundles, usage overages, modifications — every weird contract shape would create a new tab. The Controller (if they had one) would burn 60 hours a month maintaining it. The founder would stare at the variance report and wonder how a “simple” subscription business had become this complicated.

I watched this happen at least a dozen times. And every time, I'd think: the existing tools are wrong for this customer.

Maxio costs $30K a year and assumes you're ready to migrate your billing platform. Chargebee's rev rec is locked behind their billing product. NetSuite ARM is great if you're on NetSuite, but no one at this stage is on NetSuite. TrueRev is closest, but requires you to enter every contract by hand — fatal for a founder with 30 contracts and zero patience. Tabs is good but priced for controllers, not founders.

The product that should have existed didn't exist: AI that reads your contracts, applies real ASC 606 judgment, posts to your QuickBooks, and produces an audit-defensible workpaper. For the price of a Notion subscription.

So I built it.

RevRec Engine is the rev rec tool I wish existed when I was helping my clients. Built by a CPA, for founders without one. It connects to Stripe and QuickBooks, reads your signed contracts using Claude, and proposes the ASC 606 treatment in plain English. You approve. We post. Your auditor gets a workpaper they'll actually sign off on without follow-up questions.

I'm not building this for enterprise CFOs. I'm building it for the founder who just turned on QuickBooks, raised a seed, and Claude'd “what is rev rec” last Tuesday.
